ABOUT ADANA CEMENT
Construction works at large scales were started in the 1950's in the developing and progressing Turkey. To meet the cement demand of these works, at the end of the research studies carried out and taking into consideration the development and consumption condition of Çukurova, a decision was given to install a cement factory in Adana with 150,000 tons/year capacity.
Establishment studies were started in 1953 in the leadership of Turkey Emlak Bank, Akbank and Turkey Iş Bank; and Çukurova Çimento Sanayii T.A.Ş (Çukurova Cement Industry Inc.) was registered on October 5, 1954 and officially established on October 7, 1954 with the announcement in a local newspaper and started production in 1957.
The official inauguration of the factory was made on May 26, 1957 and cement sales started in June 1957. The first cement exportation was realised to Cyprus as 2,775 tons.
Adana Cement today, has the capacity of 2 million tons of grey, 300,000 tons of white clinker, 5,15 million tons of grey cement, 350,000 tons of white cement and 1 million tons of ready mixed concrete production in its facilities spread over the Mediterranean Region and Cyprus.
• CENTRAL PLANT: In the central plant of Adana Cement grey and white cement are produced. The complete capacity of grey and white clinker is positioned in the central plant, there is also 3,5 million tons/year capacity of cement production.
• ISKENDERUN 1 FACILITY: The facility that was established in 1977 to evaluate slag, the by-product of Iskenderun Iron and Steel Factory and purchased by Adana Cement in 2007, with 1 million tons/year slag and slag cement grinding capacity is the biggest slag cement seller of Turkey.
• ISKENDERUN 2 FACILITY: This is a slag and slag cement grinding facility that was put into service in the second quarter of 2009 (April 2009), lays in the Iskenderun Iron and Steel Factory site with an annual capacity of 1 million tons.
• READY MIXED CONCRETE FACILITIES: There are 5 ready mixed concrete facilities in the Antakya region with 1 millionm3 annual capacity.
• KAHRAMANMARAŞ TERMINAL: This is a packing facility serving the East Mediterranean market.
• CYPRUS TERMINAL: The facility that was established in the Turkish republic of Northern Cyprus in 2006 to market bulk and bagged cement is still contributing to the development of the region.
In rotating kiln 1, without any external project and engineering service, only with the efforts of the Company personnel the necessary processes and systems were developed to produce white clinker as of 1998 and with the completion of the modification of rotating kiln 3 in March 2009, the production with over 85 % whiteness is in progress. With this investment, the white clinker production capacity that was 90,000 tons/year reached to 300,000 tons/year.
With the acceptance of railroad junction line in January 2003 the factory was connected to the national railroad web. Furthermore, clinker unloading, stocking and loading facility in the port of Iskenderun Iron and Steel Inc. (Isdemir) was put into service in the same year.
In 1963 the Armed Forces Pension Fund became a shareholder of the company and the title was changed to Adana Cement Industries Inc. in 1986.
On November 28, 1990 a decision was taken to present 47.28 % of the capital to the public and the shares that were presented to the public on February 12, 1991 started to be traded in the Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE) as of February 21, 1991 with the following codes;
- ADANA for Group A,
- ADBGR for Group B,
- ADNAC for Group C,
Adana Cement has been the champion in Corporate Tax in Adana since 2001.
