OYAK MATHS CONTEST AMONG HIGH SCHOOLS IS AT ITS SEVENTH YEAR

The Maths Contest Among High Scools that has been organised since 2003 at the cities where OYAK Cement group Companies are, started to be organised as of last year in 17 cities with the participation of other OYAK Companies.  

The contest that outspread to 17 cities and 12 OYAK Affiliates shall, this year, take place in Adana, Balıkesir, Batman, Bolu, Düzce, Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, Kırıkkale, Manisa, Mardin, Ordu, Rize, Sakarya, Sivas, Şanlıurfa, Tekirdağ and Zonguldak. Adana Cement, Bolu Cement, Ünye Cement, Mardin Cement, OYAK Concrete, Renault MAIS, Erdemir, Isdemir, Ermaden, Erbor, Hektaş and Tukaş shall host the organisations in these cities.

During the last 6 years 5912 students from 1472 schools took part and 1952 students from 488 schools are expected to participate the qualification examination to be held on Saturday, November 15, 2008.

This year, it has been decided that according to the results, that shall be announced during the week of December 22, the following awards shall be given to the participating students, teachers, schoolmasters and the schools:

1. Chess sets to all the students who took part in the contest
2. 1,500 TL monetary grant to all the schools that participated
3. A republic gold coin to the contestants, teachers and schoolmasters of the city winners
4. A plague to the contestants, teachers and schoolmasters of the city winners
5. A bag of gold worth 1,000 TL to the students, teachers and the schoolmaster of the champion school
6. A combined laboratory worth 15,000 TL to the champion school
7. A gift cheque worth 1,000 TL to the families of the champion students.

The main target of the Maths Contest which was first organised with the motto "Life is Mathematics" by the participation of 107 schools from 5 cities in 2003 is;

1. To place analytic thinking and solution practice to the agenda of the Turkish human
2. Promote the youth who find maths interesting
3. To inoculate the love of maths
4. To display the tie of maths with life
5. Let people taste the sense of success and victory
6. Improve personal internal discipline
7. To open doors to different worlds.  

Thus, every effort has been spent to designate that Mathematics is;

1. A universal language,
2. A common tool of human thinking,
3. Both science and art
4. Provides the chance for the human to reason such as analysis, synthesis and comprehension,
5. An aid that helps the individuals to be determined, organised and systematic,
6. An auxiliary that helps improve mind and talent.
